License

Own DevStudio (ODS) is released under the GNU Affero General Public License v3 (AGPL-3.0).

This means:

  • ✅ You can use, study, modify, and share the software freely.
  • ✅ Any modifications or derivative works you distribute must also be licensed under AGPL-3.0.
  • ✅ If you run modified versions of ODS as a service (e.g. hosted IDE), you must make the source code available to your users.
  • ❌ You cannot make ODS proprietary or relicense it under a more restrictive license.

Why AGPL-3?

  • Protects freedom — ensures improvements stay open source.
  • Local-first focus — aligns with ODS’s vision of transparency and user control.
  • Service clarity — prevents closed forks in “cloud IDE” scenarios.

Warning

ODS is currently in alpha. The licensing terms are final, but non-software assets (docs, brand, media, enterprise support) may use different licenses.
